Have already clocked up 24.73 miles in the new Asics Cumulus 11 running shoes. It’s a good idea to keep a rough idea of mileage run in a pair of shoes as they tend to lose their “mojo” over a certain mileage.

Opinions vary but after some extensive Googling the general consensus is that running shoes should be changed after you’ve put between 250 and 500 miles on them. At the weekly distances I’m currently running my new Cumulus 11s will barely last 3-4 months! That can’t be right, can it? o_O

Running Log

6.21 mile run, 52′27″, 8′27″ avg pace, 581 kcal, ahr 159 bpm, mhr 177 bpm.

Bit of an ad–hoc running session today. Steady jogging interspersed with sections of fast (sub–7 min/mile, hey, it’s fast for me ;) ) running, typically “to the next road junction” or “for five lamp–posts.”

Breaks up the run a bit, making it a little less monotonous.

Brrr… 4.00 mile run, 35′31″, 8′52″ avg pace, 332 kcal, ahr 150 bpm, mhr 181 bpm.

Sure I was warm and sweaty (eew) when I got going, but it sure was cold to start with and my knees never warmed up :(

First run in my new Nimbus 11s. Mmm, really nice and I got back home without any blisters or sore toes.

I’ve found with most running shoes, problems don’t usually show up until you’ve done some longer runs in them, say 8+ miles, that’s when you find out just how comfortable a pair of running shoes is.

Tomorrow, Friday is a rest day, then I have 4M Saturday and a fast, 5M or 6.25M (10K) Sunday which I’m supposed to aim to run in under 40 or 50 mins respectively! I’m going to give it my best shot but it’s a big ask given my typical average pace over this distance is 8′40″–ish. Obviously, 5 miles in 40 minutes or 6.25 miles in 50 minutes is 8 minute/mile pace *gulp*

No long runs this week but next week’s Sunday run is an 11–miler so the distances are starting to ramp up now. The furthest I’ve ever run is 13.1 miles (half–marathon) so I think in a couple of weeks my training runs might take me past that o_O

Running Log

6.95 mile run, 1h 06′34″, 9′34″ avg pace, 657 kcal, ahr 145 bpm, mhr 159 bpm.

Ran 4 x 800m “speed” legs with 200m jog recoveries. It was difficult to keep an accurate “speed” pace due to inclines, road crossings and uneven footpaths but I was aiming for an average speed for each of the 800m legs of around 7′50″/mile. Unfortunately, in all the excitement ;) I forgot to press the lap time button on my watch at the beginning and end of each leg. Meh.
